Why Programs Matter

When a child has a serious cardiac condition, the medical team is ready. But the family? The family is on their own.

There is no standard mental health support for parents sleeping in a recliner next to their child's hospital bed for the fifth month in a row. There is no program that pays the rent back home while mom and dad are at the hospital. There is no roadmap.

MAJJK exists to build that support, one program at a time.

PHASE 1 — LAUNCH PRIORITY

🧠 Mental Health Access

Trauma-informed emotional support for cardiac families during extended inpatient stays.

Mental health shouldn’t be a luxury for families living through medical trauma. MAJJK partners directly with clinical social work and psychology teams to provide inpatient families with immediate, no-cost access to licensed therapists specializing in hospital-based trauma, grief, and long-term diagnostic stress. Whether it’s a bedside session during a difficult recovery or virtual support for siblings and secondary caregivers, we ensure emotional care is integrated into the workflow of cardiac recovery.

Who this serves: Inpatient families at partner pediatric heart centers.

Status: Actively funding initial program design and clinical partnerships.

Phase 2

💛 Family Financial Relief

Monthly bill sponsorships for families in financial crisis during hospitalization.

The cost of a child’s hospital stay isn’t just medical. It is the cost of gas to get to the hospital, the cost of meals from a cafeteria, and the cost of the mortgage that still needs to be paid while income is lost. When a family is in crisis, we step in to help cover essential living expenses so they can keep their focus where it is needed most: at their child’s bedside.

PHASE 3

🤝 Family Navigation & Morale

Peer support, practical resources, and morale-lifting moments for cardiac families throughout their stay. No family should navigate this journey without a roadmap and a hand to hold.

Peer Navigation: Direct support from veteran heart parents who understand the unique landscape of a long-term cardiac hospitalization.

Morale Programming: From hospitality carts to holiday celebrations, we bring small moments of normalcy and joy into the high-stress environment of the hospital.

Practical Resources: Care packages and navigational tools that help families manage the logistics of living inpatient for months at a time.

Phase 4

🔬 Research Funding

Grants supporting clinical research and innovation in pediatric cardiac care.

The greatest breakthroughs in pediatric cardiac care have focused on keeping children alive. The next frontier is helping them truly thrive. MAJJK funds research targeting the long-term outcomes that matter most to our families: preventing CAV (Cardiac Allograft Vasculopathy, a leading cause of death in transplant recipients), advancing regenerative medicine that may one day allow a child's own cells to grow a rejection-free heart, and developing medications that are more effective with fewer lifelong side effects. Because the goal was never just survival. It was a full life.
